Didn't mean to divert this thread so much. It's just that Major has been such a constant companion with me in the shop...I guess Shultz, normally snoozing away while Major is "helping" me, will start to get all the attention.
Shultz will be lost for awhile without Major, as will you and your family. When we put Gunner down, Ruger his son was looking for him for days. Time heales his wounds I suspect.
Good luck

Got the hydro back in the tractor last night, with the new trunnion set up. There is virtually no slack in the linkage now, though there is a little slop in the control plates where they fit on their respective shafts. next step is to add a filter, fill with hytran and spin the unit up with a drill to check operation. The lift valve spool seems stiff, so I might have to pull that out and replace or repair it. I do have a spare if I need it.

Major went peacefully in my arms earlier today. Schultz hasn't figured it out yet.

Trunnion rebuild looks good
Did you put a washer in front of the control plate behind the snap ring? I don't recall the thickness, but I remember doing it on my 123 way back. It takes out the slop, so to speak.
Hopefully someone with a better memory than me will chime in with the correct thickness.

Thoughts and prayers for you and you family

We get that you are trying to deal with the loss of a loved one. Take some time off from the Cub stuff. We are here for you when you come back. RIP Major.

Holler if you want to talk.

Mac

Got the pair of motor mount rails from Lew (Darkminion_17) yesterday, and prepped them for the cradle mod. Mounted them to the oil pan and will tack them prior to removing them and welding them up. Also, finished closing up the hydro with the suction pipe and filter. Filled the rear end with HyTran.

We're headed down to the river for a few days. Next update will be sometime next week.

Wife spent the evening looking at labra-doodles on line...that didn't take long.

Off from work this week, and the boat is all winterized and put to bed for the winter. (still have some projects there, but home for the rest of this week).

I hooked a drill up to the hydro and spun it up (clockwise from the rear shaft looking forward, so that's the same as counter-clockwise from the driveshaft perspective) . It didn't do anything until I removed the release valves and added some hytran. Nothing in the manual tells you to vent the unit or fill it with oil so I am wondering if this is normal? Any thoughts? Once I got oil in it, put the valves back in it, I managed to get it to move the tractor forwards and backwards. I think it's going to work? made some funny sounds, but I suspect this is due to air still in the system? I don't know.

Welded up the iso mount rails and installed the driveshaft and engine. Should have it running in a couple weeks to at least fully test the hydro. Need to rebuild the carb, mount fuel tank, coil, condenser, etc. to get it running. Really not that far away now.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
