I have an engine supplier that used to be able to get them by type and size, but haven't got any recently. (Not to that point on the engine I am going through right now.) Kohler still has them $14 from them. I guess cheap is a relative term.

partstree shows them as NLA. Who else would you recommend?

Well, I tried to look them up on Cub Cadets site, but as usual it didn't want to cooperate. I know partstree.com has them listed as NLA, but the Kohler web page shows them as available. Most Cub Cadet dealers are Kohler dealers. You should be able to get them there, or at any Kohler engine dealer. I will check with my engine supplier tomorrow and see if he can get them any cheaper. Like I said earlier, Kohler wants about $14 for two sets.

The campaign is nearing completion. Managed to get the engine all buttoned up, checked the timing, valve lash, leveled the head and torqued to spec. dropped it in the frame. Just need to finish assembly of the carb, governor, air filter, ignition components, etc. She'll be running soon!

Very nice. I just got my 301 all back together and in the 123 this weekend. Runs awesome and now a non smoker. I finally got the governor adjusted after it always used to run away, can't believe it was that easy. Hope your machine work was a good price, I didn't have anyone to compare with on here. Charged me $65.00 to bore, I didn't think it was that bad. Can't wait to hear about yours running, looks great.

Got the engine installation finished, rolled it outside and it started right up! Runs good. I let it run at about half throttle for about 30 minutes, then let it cool down and re-torqued the head. Then I finished assembly of the muffler shroud, made and added a muffler crutch, and put the grill and hood all back together.
Alvy, the machine shop work was $171. Bore cylinder, grind crank and valve seats. Here's the start up video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUKabP1XEnU

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
