You keep on talking about doing a restoration on her, but it looks like new from here. Looking good, Sam!

Sam how necessary are these rear end braces I plan on using a plow and maybe a rear blade on my 1872 Is there a chance of breaking something?

It's not bad but it has a few places where the paint is starting to peel. Normal Cyclops issues. BTDT. I'll just touch it up for now.

It all depends on how hard you use it and how much you twist the frame. I'm convinced that the twisting is what cracks the pump adapter mounts. The Supers being longer just make the problem worse. I'll put it this way, after replacing the pump adapters on 2 rears out of Supers and having to remove broken bolts on a the rear from an 1863 I put the braces on all my stuff. The first pic is what my 2182 looked like the second pic is from the 1863.

Everything is looking good, Sam! You make it all look easy, but it's all about having the right tools and patience to do it right the first time! We'll be waiting for the next installment!

Pulled the rear out of the 1782 today. Popped the axle tubes off, had the normal nasty crud in the bottom of the tubes. Will be drilling the oil return holes, new tube gaskets, axle seals and a set of my braces on it before it goes back in. Got the braces painted. If the weather is decent tomorrow I hope to get most of it done. I’ll get some pics tomorrow. You guys are not missing anything exciting. Pretty much the same old stuff I do on all of them.

How big a hole do you drill Sam? I don't recall if you ever said. Maybe you did and I missed it.

Glad it's warm enough to work in your area again! It's like 45 here today. Wayyyyy better than the -15 at the beginning of the week!

Jon

It was 55 here today.
I drill a 3/8" hole at the bottom of the main case. This is my 2182 but the 1782 will be the same setup.

I've been wondering how your project was going we haven't heard from you for a while. Is the lack of heat in your garage holding you up?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
