Well, I got my new 4x4 truck yesterday. Even though I was mostly looking for GMC/Chevy, you Ford guys may be happy to know that I ended up with a 2003 Ford F-150. Thanks to all who made suggestions, and provided useful info. It was a big help.

I must have looked at over 1000 online ads over the last couple of weeks. I spent hours last weekend looking at ads for clean trucks with under 80k miles. I almost flew out of town for several that didn’t work out because they either got sold right before I called, or we couldn’t agree on price, etc. I was getting a little frustrated. So out of the blue I spontaneously stopped by a local Ford dealer 4 miles away as I was driving by. They wholesale out most of their used vehicles and mostly just have new ones on the lot, but I thought I’d stop by to let them know what I was looking for, just in case. The salesman said that he just got a one owner trade in from a local guy who bought another new Ford, and that he thought it may be what I was looking for.

It was hard to believe. It’s a really nice and clean garage kept 100 year anniversary 1903-2003 Heritage Edition. 71000 miles, 5.4L V8, extended cab, 6.5 ft. bed, nice looking alloy wheels, nice Goodyear tires, manual shift transfer case, immaculate interior – pretty much everything I wanted. Got it for about 3 to 4 grand less than what I was about to spend on some of the others. It pays to be patient and relentless, and I'm fortunate to have a 2nd vehicle to drive while I looked so that I didn't have to be in a huge hurry to get something else after selling my old 2wd.

Here are a few pics for those who participated and may be interested. Thanks again.

JT

Very nice truck and options. Looks well taken care of and the colors in and out are a great combination. That's cool that it has the manual t case lever. Been driving ford and chevy service vans for 20 years and didn't want to get into the debate although you got some pretty good real world info from everyone. I just feel they are both great and can have a gazillion miles put on them if cared for and maintained properly. Congrats on a very nice truck

Congrats!!
Beautiful truck. I ran a 02 just like that for 11 years, sold it with 200k.
Loved it but couldn't fit two kids seats in the back.

Great looking truck I had one similar. I stayed out of debate, but now that you have a ford I'll tell you that in the last 36 years I have had over 40 ford cars and trucks, 6 as we speak. The only one I ever had trouble with was a 1990 Lincoln continental. I have no complaints on the Fords I have owned. I have ordered a new Mustang with a build date of April 11. Good luck hope the truck serves you well.

Make sure whoever changes the sparkplugs knows what they are doing... Those early 5.4's are very easy to break the plugs off in the head. If they have been changed at some point you will be ok... if not find a guy that knows how to get them out.. The later plugs were redesigned and are not as bad.

Other than that... the 5.4 is a real stump puller.. great engine

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
