Remember Sorner.......it wasn't new when you bought it and it didn't cost you $7,000, so a little attention may be called for. Good luck.

Ditto on the 1864 being the best garden tractor. |

![]() I can't let it go until winter. My garage will be a slippery mess by then. Eventually I'll run out of things to fix on it and it'll be good as new. |

It leaks a lot more after it has been driven. This drip is forming slowly since it's been sitting.

After leaving it sit in place I have now two drips on the cardboard, one on each side. So I'll pull it apart and reseal it. Does the rear have to come all the way out to do that, or can it be lowered a few inches after taking the frame bolts out to get at it? I know I have to take the back plate off and get the axles out to pull the housing. I have limited space in my garage to remove the rear and work on it out of the tractor right now.
Is a 1641 rear the same aside from the pump? I'm still considering using the 1641 for a parts donor to the 1864... the 1641 rear has good seals from the factory, so I know nobody has been into it. |

The 1641 transaxle assembly is totally different than your 1864. It will fit the tractor but the hydraulic lines are different configuration.

Ok. So the rear and the pump from the 1641 is of no use to be a spare to the 1864.

Some individual parts may interchange. I don't know.
The 1864 Sunstrand transaxle is a much better deal than the 1641 Hydro-Gear in my opinion. The Hydro-Gear will work in your tractor if you replumb the hydraulic lines but even then may not work well with the PS. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
