IIRR your deere 318 has the onan with a 3 inline terminal regulator.
Your 2 AC lines would go to the either end terminals, and the center would be the 12V output, and make sure you have a the regulator body grounded solidly.

OK. I can make a temp harness for that. No danger of it damaging my system? Like I said, not an electrical guy and don't want to fry anything.

Thanks.

The only risk is if there is some issue with the stator that is killing the new R/R's. Otherwise it's fine. If you put it back on the Deere and it no longer works, at least you'll know you have a stator issue on the cub.

Rated amp output of both charging systems should be the same. Most all garden tractors are 15amp systems. Even if the two systems aren't the same output, as long as you don't put a huge load on it, it will be fine.

Just wondering if it might be a better idea to first try the regulators from the Vanguard on the Onan in the 318 then you would know for sure if they are really bad. If the stator is leaking AC to ground on the Vanguard it will probably also damage the Onan regulator. If they do charge when hooked to the Onan then you will know that the stator on the Vanguard is bad. If they do not charge you can still try the Onan regulator on the Vanguard if you want to take a chance.

This one has me stumped. Good luck
Tom

It's the dadgummit voltage regulator!!!

Swapped out the one from my Deere and it's charging fine!!!

Two bad new regulators in a row????? Why didn't I just play the lottery that day?

Still having trouble believing it. In fact, I'm going to swap back and crank her up again just for good measure.

Thanks for all the help.

Put a Kohler R/R on it this time. They're made better.

Does it need to be Kohler part 41-403-10-s or will any of the Kohlers work? That one seems to be about the most expensive one. Don't mind spending the money if that's the only one that works but I'm always one for saving a buck if I still get where I want to go.

Thanks.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
