I had a positive ending to an unexpected and very early failure. My 2186 is my main mowing machine. I had been mowing for about 30 minutes and I noticed my foot pedals were falling out of the foot area. I made it back to the garage and found a very skimpy plate used for holding the pedal assembly in it's proper place. Take a look at the picture of this pitiful plate. Maybe 1/8th thick. I was shocked and embarrassed for newer Cub Cadets at that point. I understand that these models are primarily for mowing but I was somewhat surprised at the cheapness of this part and the plastic so-called bearings...
Please realize that I have 8 Cubs so I'm not anti Cub, just anti cheap. Anyway, I pulled the part, welded it, installed it and finished mowing and it held together. Maybe it will last another 300 hours. I'm thinking if it were a 1/4 inch steel it would never break. At least I had the welder and had just enough knowledge to weld it. Sorry about the twisted photos.. Randy

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
