Check out Brian Miller's tip and tricks for pulling tractors. He has a really good tear down procedure. Also, as Matt suggested both top and bottom gears need replaced. The top gear is actually a sliding set of 2 gears. The bottom gears are separate. Count the number of teeth on the chipped gear. Then either check out our sponsors or go to that one auction site. Some pullers may have some old gears laying around that they have removed when they upgraded. Read over the procedure on Brian's website a couple of times or print it out and take it to the shop with you. I've got the stock gears that I removed from my trans, but am moving and don't have any idea where they are stored now. Good luck.

My apologies if I made it sound like it was your fault; you asked how it happened, I'm blaming the PO for the reason I previously stated.

I would not run it like that. I can see at least 2-3 other teeth that are damaged in your pictures, and if another tooth comes off and winds up getting caught in two meshing gears, you're going to have a real mess on your hands.

The easy, fast route would be switching rearends, but if you have more time than money, replacing the two gears will be cheaper in the end. Either way, if you get impatient, you have the potential of spending a lot of money on either one. There are good deals on both gears and entire transaxles if you look around and give it some time. Put in a want ad and see what happens.

Thats what i did with my 106,got another trans a lot cheaper than getting a gear and got the parts out of it.

Will a trans axle from a 102 work in my 100? Plus it would be an excellent addition.
