Lookin' good Jay. I really like the drill idea to power up the hydraulics. I think I'll save an old driveshaft to do the same.

Thanks Stan! The drill worked better than I thought it would! My trusty Milwaukee drill wouldn't open past 1/2" so I stuck the driveshaft in my old Southbend and turned it down a bit.. even at the slower RPM of the drill everything worked flawless.. I was surprised!

Default Played a bit after work today

Had a few minutes after work today so I pushed the old 782 out to the chain hoist and welded a set of front axle adjustment bolts on.. fabricated them from some 1/4" flat bar, a 1/2 X 1 bolt, and some jam nuts.. I wasn't going to do it but I figured Cub Cadet had them on all the Cyclops and I have a Cyclops axle under the 782 so why not!? It should take some of the stress off of the axle pin with the constant back and forth motion of the power steering cylinder. May have been a lot of extra work for nothing but now I feel better! Plus I got to have a few minutes of Cub time!

Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
Good idea Jay. That should snug it up pretty good...

Thanks John! I don't claim to be a welder... Dad made me learn years ago on a DC stick machine.. He taught me how to "stack dimes"! Some people say you don't have to weld like that with a mig machine but hey that's all i know how to do... and it seems to work!

Default It's in there... but it's not quite right!

Ok guys.... spent some time with the 782/1864 today... Got the driveshaft CV's cleaned, put in some new balls and boots.. (the boots aren't cheap!) Bolted up my engine plate and set her in....

All is well.... BUT.... it appears the engine needs to come back about 3/4".. used a plate from a 1641... it had two sets of holes.. one for the briggs and one set for the Kohler.. same part number on a 1641 and an 1864.. My 1864 driveshaft is too short.. using a pump adapter from Jeff. (beautiful piece by the way).. I am guessing the 2nd set of holes that I thought were for the Command are not far enough back? Based on the threads and measurements given on the forum for re drilling the KT plate I am not far enough back... Have any of y'all ever run across a Cyclops Command plate that didnt' have the right holes in it? you can see on the close up of the CV boot that it should be almost touching the grease fitting..
the splines are barely reaching. Any help appreciated! I guess at this point I will just re drill the old KT plate as several other members on here have done.. I thought I was saving myself some work by using the 1641/1864 plate. Thanks in advance for any help!

Poke 4 holes 1" back in the plate you mocked up and call 'er good. Looks like you're makin' progress. Hang in there. Quality takes time. I like the axle snubbers. Cub should have done that.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
