Last week stripped out the gears in my BB36 gearbox, Today, I went to look at a qa42, but instead came home with a used BB-36 gearbox, auger and frame, and 8.5 tire chains. The gearbox is a 20 tooth pinion and 30 tooth drive so 1.5:1 ratio. Someone installed a quick attach frame on my bb-36 to attach on my 127, so it's better than bolting. I figured out the ratio and the auger turns about 1152 RPM. It will throw snow about 20-25 feet.

Changed the oil pan on the 1200 put the cradle on it. Still have to fix the pivot holes in the clutch hanger bracket. Was dark and getting cold and my sinuses are killing me so called it a night. Watching the original mad max.

Spent a good part of the afternoon trying to shake out the persistent issues with the 147. Found the problem with charging system - the ground wire on the regulator had a "cold" solder joint. I checked those visually but never measured with the DVM; essentially open circuit. Don't have an iron hot enough to melt solder on the bracket and didn't want to melt the rubber mount using a torch so I made a jumper that's soldered to the regulator base in a pool of solder already there and then a loop connector on the other end so it can be clamped to the chassis frame under the mounting bolt. Put it back on there and started it up, after a slight adjustment it came up to approx 13.75V and held there and didn't vary much with lights off or on. Looks like the ammeter is bad, though, and the glass has a crack. Also the S/G needs bearings. More parts on order this week.
Also tore down the electric lift and put in some bearings and a new seal. Fortunately the gear box and screw tube were full of a brown grease and were protected from the moisture. (The crud and corrosion in the brake compartment was cleaned out earlier and left soaking in PB.) I ordered a snap ring with the parts and am glad I did; the old one gave up instantly. It's laying there on the 'B' in the pic. Need to get a new set of cap screws to finish. IMG_0598.jpg Also ran the sc2400 (technically not a CC but I did buy it at the local CC dealership) to clean up the ice on the drive; tried out the Internet wisdom of using a 1 1/2-inch diameter length of ABS pipe slotted and pressed on to the blade edge. It helps, but isn't as good as I had hoped. Might try a 2-inch pipe. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
