Then on to the slow job of tilling through all that grass. Too fast and it just wound around the tiller shaft until no teeth were showing. After a couple of sessions with the hook knife, I decided the smarter path was to just go slow. The plot was pretty hard and uneven, but became much more cooperative after the first time over. I tilled again at ninety degrees.

Then the Little Cub That Could dragged a box leveler around until things were pretty flat. Then a chain link drag. After the seed was down the fun part was pulling the culti-packer around at a leisurely pace.

All in all it was a fun and productive weekend. Then the dusty 149 went home to a cool shower and a rest in the shade. A job well done. I think he has earned an oil change and breather filter cleaning.
Nice work! Looks like fun.

Default hauling firewood

I am teaching my son to drive our 129 with a "new to us" trailer. It came with a ball hitch in good condition, so I added a ball to the rear end plate of the tractor. Now the hitch and unhitch activity is SO much easier than the old trailer with the pin. I do not know who made this trailer. We take it up into the woods behind our house. I cut firewood and he loads, drives and unloads the wood closer to the house. The hill is steep and rocky, but with the chains and wheel weights, she is climbing strong. I WAS surprised at first that chains can spin a lot on flat rock surfaces. But they sure are great for traction on most other terrain. I think we move about 200 - 300lbs of wood per run. All green, it will be burned in late 2022.

What wonderful machines.

Well, after about three and a half years of effort on my Cub 108, I finally have it to a point where it is usable. I have put much effort into this machine and could not have gotten it to the point it is at now without the help I got from this website. So, thank you all. Jeff in PA supplied me with some excellent drive train parts that fit perfect and was very good about in getting them to me up here in Canada. So was Charlie at Cub Cadet Specialties. It is much appreciated. Anyway, my Cub 108 is usable, not anywhere near perfect, but usable and I have something I can look forward to working on and improving.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
