New guy from Smyrna Georgia
Hello to everyone. Just joined the board yesterday. I grew up with an IH cadet, but haven't had one in 30 years. I'd like to find one to rehab this winter, to be used primarily for lawn mowing in the spring. I've restored other brand yard tractors, but feel drawn to the Cub Cadets now. There's so much information to go through on them, it's a little bit over whelming. I hope some of the guys here will offer guidance on the pro's & con's of different models while I'm shopping! I've been reading all I can find on them, but still, there's a lot of information to go.

Welcome to OCC! As far as what model you will get many answers here
They all have their followers. There are narrow frame guys, wide frame guys, hydro fans, gear drive lovers, you can't go wrong with any of them I say! Maybe look for one like you grew up on.

Im with Terry,
Ask ten different cub people and get ten different answers... You really can't go wrong with any of them.. but I will warn you.. it's impossible to stop with just one!! One of my favorites is still the one I grew up on... so why not go back to what got you started with cub cadets? I'd say look for whatever model got the cub fever started 30 years ago! Welcome to the forum... lots of great guys here!! Have fun with whatever you find!!

Oak, I believe it was a 100. It was so long ago now and I was a kid at the time, it's hard to be sure. Glad to know Ball Ground is duly represented!

Mowing, eh?
I'm in middle Tennessee, between Chattanooga and Nashville. Welcome to these forums. I got a 782 a couple of years ago "to mow the yard." The deck has been in storage for about 1-1/2 years -- I have a snow blade permanently mounted that I mainly use to push brush into my burn pile. It also now has a rear hitch to tow my boat around, a plow, and a box blade.
So, I'm with the others - get the Cub that suits you, but don't be surprised if you find out it does a lot more than just mow. BTW, I had no plans originally to restore this Cub, but now I like it so much that I think it needs a repaint, so that it can look good while it works! Check the for sale threads in this forum and post what you're looking for -- I'm sure you'll find it here. -- Mike |

Thanks Mike! I've been looking on Craigslist, but not finding much around here. I need to try and twist Oak's arm to sell me some of the good stuff he has hanging around his place!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
