1604 with no headlights
I just got this machine, and I'm going through it trying to button up any loose ends on it. I can't get any of the lights on the machine to work, I'm guessing that the first on position of the key is how the lights are turned on. I've checked with a test light and I'm not getting any power to any of the lights, so that rules out bulbs. I tried googling and searching here, but the 1604s seem to be a model that isn't commonly talked about. I would appreciate any help, maybe my ignition is bad, or there is a fuse i missed.

There should be 2 run positions on the key switch. I think after you start it turn the switch to the left one click and that should be the lights on position.

Im embarrassed to say that it was just a fuse. It looked fine when I looked at it, but I switched it out anyways and everything is working perfect.
Thank you for your help. |

no need to be embarrassed, I don't think there's any of us who've not "been there, done that."

Yep, I can see the read out on my multi-meter better than those tiny elements. And these miniscule little blade fuses they're using now, oh boy.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
