Default Non OEM voltage regulator

Just went to install aftermarket voltage regulator on our 1210 hydro, and the way it fits, the cooling fins go inside the engine compartment/shroud. This seems counter-intuitive; I would think the fins go on the outside for better air circulation. The Kohler OEM v/r has the fins on the outside. The company I bought it from is now closed, so I will call in the AM, but in the meantime if anyone can confirm if the fins go inside the shroud, thank you in advance.

Everyone I have ever seen the fin are inward. It should get better air circulation inward from the flywheel rotation. The wire connector is also designed for better clearance if the fin are inward.

X4. The base of the Regulator (fins) is referred to as a heat sink and uses the blower fan to help it dissipate heat.
