Flat head converted to overhead valve
This pulling engine is an aftermarket flathead Jones block . It is a heavier built block modeled after a Kohler K series that uses K series type parts. We turned this into an overhead valve engine using an Oldsmobile 455 head with roller rockers and other aftermarket parts inside to end up at 53 cubic inches and 13.5 compression

Thanks. I started with the Stromberg 2 barrel on gas but eventually changed it to a 44 Mikuni side draft on Methanol. |

that is impressive. why cut up the head though, would it not be easier to build a custom head, or is that not allowed in the rules?

To make a head from scratch out of billet aluminum would require a tremendous amount of machining. When you are done it would not necessarily be any better. No need to reinvent the wheel, just adapt a known good wheel to the project. Additionally, I acquired this head from a friend because it had a crack on one of the intake ports where it had been ported to deeply. Essentially it was junk to use on a V8 again but was perfect for my plan and big valves had already been installed. I used roller rockers and fit it to the block.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
