Trouble changing oil in K161
I was changing the oil in my Cub Cadet Original. The manual specified to put in 2 pints and a half of oil. I did that and oil came spilling out of the fill hole. Is that normal? I put the dipstick in and it was way over the full mark. Is this normal or should I let some more oil out, so its right on the fill mark?

YUP, the manual says 2.5 pints of oil. Are you sure you let "all" the old oil drain??

I'm sure I did, I took off the drain plug and the dip stick and let it sit for 10 minutes after the majority of the oil came out

Are you sure you put 2.5 "pints" (1.25 Quarts) in, as opposed to 2.5 Quarts..??

That'll do it!
There's remarkably little oil in those pans.

No need to feel stupid. My guess would be that a whole bunch of
mistakes have been made by all the folks here. Glad it was an easy fix. Ken |

Now if you would have started it up with all that oil in there... my guess is you still would be in the shower, trying to get all that oil off of you.

If we were to start a post titled "really dumb things I've done while working on machinery" each and every person who has ever spun a wrench could contribute a sizeable list.
No worries, and it's all good....

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
