Default Diesel acting up

So my 782D sat for an extended period of time, but I was pleasantly surprised that it fired right up with a battery jump. The diesel fuel additive I've used must have made a difference. Anyhow, it seems to run absolutely normal for about an hour, then it stumbles and runs poorly til it quits. I called Madsens and ordered both filters. The one in the sight glass looked really clean so I changed the inline one ahead of the pump, and everything seemed good again until about after an hour of run time, when it sputtered and quit again.

So now I'm in the process of draining the tank, and also changing the filter in the sight bowl.

Ist question...I'm assuming the valve on the sight glass fixture controls the flow. Vertical position is "on", correct?

2nd question...Does the filter just pop on and off, or am I missing something? I've tugged straight down on it with a decent amount of force...am I missing something?

Thanks for any and all advice...by the way I did use the search function and also downloaded the Kubota manual but didn't find an answer to these questions.

Paul, sounds like the screen on the fuel cock in the tank is clogging up. If you can, pull the tank, clean it, replace the tank bushings, fuel cock and the lines. That should take care of your problems.

I have a 782D that has done the same thing. I found algae in the fuel tank. The algae will plug the fuel line along with the fuel filter.
Clean the fuel tank then use a aghaeside in the tank. replace the fuel line.
Good luck!

What does it have for the injector pump? After it died did you try cracking a line to see if it's getting fuel? I'd clean the tank good new filters and see what happens. Reason I was asking about the injector pump is we had a combine with a cav pump that the vanes on lift pump on the back of the injector pump was worn. I repaced the vanes on the pump and that took care of it. It acted just like your 782. Clean it all up change your filters and try again. It does it then try cracking fuel lines see if she's getting fuel.

Algae in diesel has been a pretty big problem with trucks , tractors ect since they went to ultra low sulfur fuel.

Great, thank you all for the replies so far. I've changed both filters, tomorrow I'll hit the hardware store for some fuel line. As far as cleaning the tank, will flushing it with some new fuel generally do the trick, or in most cases will a person have to remove it and really agitate it around? How sticky is this algae?

While draining the tank it never really achieved a good stream, it would kinda glug, glug, glug, and dribble out. Blowing back through the line didn't seem to have an effect either way.

Of course I have already installed the hard cab for winter duties so getting down to the tank will be fun haha

The goop algae forms can be very hard to remove. Taking the tank off is a must. Most all of them I have cleaned had to be pressure washed out to remove it. Even seen a time or two that the tank had to be replaced because it was too odd shaped to get clean, or had a baffle that obstructed cleaning.

All Kubota's use a cam box pump. Very different from a CAV pump. The injector pump housing is made into the block.

Great responses here, cleaning of tank, fuel pepcock screen, and replacing filters, fuel line, and grommets should get you running again.
I do want to add, the glug, glug, glug you speak of makes me wonder if your fuel cap was on while you checked flow? I ask because that can be a sign of a plugged vent in the cap not allowing air to replace fuel.
Do a google search "Only cub cadet diesel dies" This will give you a dozen posts to refer too.

When I cleaned my tank out. I removed it and used that "super Clean" to clean and flush it out wit a good rinsing afterwards. I left the empty tank on the patio deck to really bake out and dry before re-installing it. This was followed up with a good dose of Bio Kleen Diesel Fuel Biocide, to keep things clean.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
