Default Once you start, you can't stop

I just got a 129 and a #4 cart. The body is in good shape, and it seems to run pretty good.

The cart is in pretty good shape. It's not all bent or rotted. Just surface rust from sitting.

The seller told me his father bought it in the late 80s.It was completely rebuilt by the dealer. They used it for weekly mowing up until about 5 years ago when they bought a newer tractor.

Some observations and questions:

1. The pin that connects the driveshaft to the engine seems to be too short, maybe broken. I have to look at it closer. I could turn the driveshaft about a quarter turn before it spins the engine.

2. The throttle is really loose and doesn't seem to do anything until halfway. Is there an adjustment for this?

3. It does not hold a steady speed. The drive lever creeps back to neutral. I'm guessing the trunnion needs repair.

4. The seller said sometimes if if sits a little while after being run, you need to choke it to start it again. What could cause this?

I'm sure I'll find more once I look it over better and run it more.

PO mods: The brakes were disconnected, and someone made a lift stop.

Regarding #3, I can't speak to the trunnion as a possible link to this problem, but I've had a similar issue many times, only the reverse problem - where the shift lever goes from neutral into either forward or reverse. There is an adjustment (pictured below) at the base of the steering column that can be tightened. It's accessible by removing the tunnel cover. I believe that if you adjust this, it may help. If, however, the shift lever does not seem all that loose to begin with, then it may require an adjustment elsewhere.

I do know how to adjust that, but the lever already seems pretty tight, so I don't know if that will help much.

Don't crank that down to much or you will bust it
There is a little plastic bushing in there that can be replaced.
CCS has them. part #IH-680521-R1
You must have an earlier model prior to ser #425,999
There was an updated version that came on the scene at that ser # break
Check the parts lookup, it's in there.
Check it out and learn how to use it, lots of good info in there.
It will be your friend forevermore and answer a lot of questions you do not even have yet!!

PS, it sounds by your 1st post that the drive coupler on the engine is shop and wallered out.
Jeff can fix that or even make you a new one.

The serial number is 430941, so if the tag is correct, it would be later.

I think you're right about the drive coupler. I will look closer and post some pictures tomorrow night.
