Default 129 issue with gas smell
Hey guys been a while since i have been on here, but i have an issue with my 129 and im at a loss to see where the issue is. Last sunday i decided to mow and i filled the tank up and it takes me about an hour to mow everything, normally till im done i typically use about a 1/2 tank of gas, but that evening i went to the garage and the smell of raw gas was terrible. I checked to see if something was leaking and found no signs of that. When i looked in the tank it was all but empty...this escapse me as to where that much fuel went. I have removed the tank and flushed it out...then filled it with water and put pressure on it and found no leaks...the fuel line looks ok and i have a new piece to replace this but i for the life of me cant figure out where the fuel is going. I assume it is evaporating as the garage reeks, but seems excessive and since only sunday. Ideas????

Check your crankcase! If it is overfull and smells like fuel....the carb may have made you some extra "oil".

Is the carb overflowing? You may have gotten gunk in your float valve. If you can smell it, it is coming out somewhere. In my experience it doesn't take much to stink up the garage. I've also had leaky sediment filters.

True, i have checked the crankcase oil level is normal. Carb was just rebuilt and i just tore it off again to double check everything and it looks as it should. Carb cleaner and there was nothing. That part of the motor is dry.

Gas will evaporate that fast. Carb has to be leaking. Fill it up and watch it. Gas can't get into the crankcase on a K series. It will run out the carb first.

When you rebuilt the carb did you set the float height? I had a carb that would leak periodically due to the float height being set too high.

This missing gas is the reason why SOME people shut off their fuel after they put their tractor away after a days work. Whether it leaks or not.... For safety reasons. I don't always practice what I just preached..

Anyway, I agree on the carburetor float leak. That some happens with crud of crap in there even if you have it adjusted correctly. Or maybe not

Most likely a bowel gasket is leaking, or the bowel nut is.
