Wide frame deck question for a novice

I have a goal to have a spare deck while I rebuild my 109's 42 inch deck. I learned a lesson today. I'd also like to use the old spindles from 63 to 68 which used the taper roller bearing. Not crazy about the new style they used on my 42 inch, but I may be out of luck.

I'm rebuilding a 42 inch mower deck which came off a 109. Part number is 422U1113 and it has the new style spindles. The 109 is a manual lift which allows the mower deck to be raised all the way up due to the spindle being centered on the deck.

My question is when did they change to the new style bearing versus the tapper roller bearing type and second, what deck sizes had the center spindle in the middle with the large center blade ?

I have both a 42" & 48" that use a large center and small wing blades.

If you have access to a lathe you may be able to rebuild the spindles. I have 3 that my son in law is turning down and fitting with replaceable bearings as a test run. I don't know when they used the "water pump" style spindles, But I know that I have 2 decks with them.

Yes, my 42 inch deck which has the large center blade along with the smaller wing outer blades. I purchased a 44 inch deck to use as a temp while I rebuild the 42. I did not know until I was mounting the 44 on the 109 the something didn't look right. The blade pattern is different on the 44. All blades are of same length.

My 1976 vintage 38A has the spindles with the essentially (new at the time) non-replaceable bearings.

I would prefer the tapered roller bearings, but that isn't what I have.

Go to partstree.com and look up your tractor model number, scroll down and there should be several decks to choose from, you can sort through and find the break-down as to what years they used each type of spindle.

The spindles that you are looking for come from the 38" and 42" decks I believe they were made between 1968 and 1971 (don't quote me on that) I don't know what good having the year is though, you still have to look at the spindles to tell what type they are. These decks have the small end blades and the large center one.

The spindles on the 48" decks are different than the ones from the 38" and 42" decks, although you may be able to use them on the two smaller decks if you use the pulleys from the 48" deck (Don't quote me on that either, but IIRC this is the case). However using the 48" deck pulleys will change the size belts needed for both, the spindles and the deck drive.
