122 info needed
As I stated in my introduction, I'm looking to pick up a ole Cub here soon. My grandpa had some when I was a kid. I'm looking to get one for light yard work mowing etc mauve plowing my drive if I find a plow. I'm looking at a 122 soon so what's the details on these? Are they pretty good as far as this model goes...is the trans a direct drive or v-belts? Any other info would be great. This has a 12 horse that's been rebuilt and the owners manual still with it.

it has a driveshaft, no belts. the 122 is a great tractor.

Thanks for the input. So the deck is driven by a belt...anyone have a good picture or 2 of how it's all hooked up?

All Of the Yellow and White, IH Built Cub Cadet Garden tractors are great machines.
With the exception of styling and a few other changes over the years, they are all the same. They're built around two different trans-axles (Gear drive and Hydrostatic). There were several different size engines offered 7, 10, 12, 14 and 16 hp Kohler engines and all were shaft drive. The First generation (Cub Cadet Originals) did have a number of other differences from the later models, but were also great little tractors.

Col thanks! The 122 is gear drive? Are parts to keep them going fairly easy to find? Can't wait to have this thing

122 is a gear drive. You can download the repair manual here: http://ccmanuals.info/pdf/1x2-3%20Service%20Manual.pdf
Most parts are easy to find from various sources. Looks like a nice tractor.

I maintained a suburban yard of a neighbor growing up. They had a 122 they bought new. They also had a 1000 that I now own.
The 122 was a solid, well built machine. IH put 10 and 12 horse Kohler engines in the gear drive tractors they made. The 122 has the 12 horse engine. My dad had a 108 and the neighbors had the 1000 so I was very used to 10 horse CCs. I noticed the difference when I used the 122. I would go over the tractor and look for anything that is worn or not working. In particular be sure the clutch and PTO clutch function properly. PTO clutches aren't bad to rebuild. Driveline clutches can be costly to rebuild. Keep in mind that this tractor was made in the late 1960s. If it needs repair chances are the parts are almost 50 years old. From the pictures you posted it looks like it was stored inside and taken care of. If there are no major problems I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. My $0.02 Bob

That is a purdy tractor,looks all original except the seat.I would not hesitate to buy it.
