Default craftsman lawnmower

I need some trouble shooting help. The safety cable ,that won't allow you to start the mower unless the bar it is attached to is held against the handle, snapped. Is there a way to get around this safety feature? I can't seem to slide/move the linkage that the cable moved at all. Any help is appreciated. It may become a curb ornament if it is to much trouble.
Thanks
Eric

I'm in exactly the same boat with my TroyBilt push mower. I was using it a few weeks ago and the cable stuck in the retracted (on) position. I pushed on the lever on the engine to try and shut down and the cable snapped in the casing.

I hate restarting mowers just cause I have to let go of the handle to move a garbege can or whatever, so to me it is fine. Just don't tell OSHA.

All that bar does is keep the ignition circuit from grounding out. when you release the lever it grounds and kills the spark. I always just put a two position switch on the mower. Flip the switch on to start the mower, and flip it back to kill it.

Be sure to keep your feet well away from the deck though!

I would replace the safety switch. It's cheaper and less painful then a trip to the ER. It's there for a reason.

How to Removed.

***THIS IS WHAT I DO...I DO NOT ADVOCATE ANYONE BYPASSING ANY SAFETY FEATURE AT ANYTIME. ANYONE WHO EMPLOYS THE TECHNIQUE DESCRIBED ABOVE DOES SO AT THEIR OWN RISK***

Locking this thread. We are not going to be a place were we are going to teach each other how to disable safety features. It's cheaper and less painful to use all safety devices.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
