682 repower
My dad has a 682 that he want to repower because the motor blew. Today we picked up a donor tractor a 2160. He wants to use it to mow grass. We where wondering if we could use the pto that's on the 2160 motor and if we could use the drive shaft as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it will work. I would guess the driveshaft will have to be modified
Sam Mac is the Vanguard expert and will be able to answer all your questions.

Best way to do what you want to do is to use a 1440 or 1641 drive shaft. Get a pump adapter from Jeff in PA ( you need to one for the 5/8" round shaft with the spirol pin). Use a muffler for a 1641. The 2160 PTO is a 6" pulley you'll need a smaller diameter, I suggest that you contact these people will build you a custom PTO. http://xtremeope.com/?gclid=CI_M14PJ3swCFYomhgodQkYIgQ
Basically what you need is a 2160 PTO but with a smaller pulley.

Would the pto on the 682 motor work on the 2160 motor? Or do we still need to get a custom build pto?

Don't know, the Vanguard 16 has a 1" shaft. If you have a 1" shaft it will probably play. If you have a 1-1/8" shaft maybe you could use a bushing. Your call, considering the vintage and the amount of $$$ you will put into this project I'd spring for a new PTO. Your tractor and your wallet.

According to the boys over at Small Engine Warehouse, the PTO will bolt right on to a Vanguard.
