1872 Issues
Hello everyone and Thanks for a Great Site!
I am asking this for my brother who is the original owner of a 1872. He lives 3 hours from me and I can only ask for help by what he tells me over the phone, so please bear with me! He tells me his tractor runs good till he puts his PTO in and then after several minutes it starts missing/breaking up then dies. After several minutes it starts and runs fine until he puts PTO back in and the same thing. He just replaced front and rear seals and installed a new carb he purchased from I Fix Old Tractors. He said the plugs aren't new but maybe 2 years old. Fuel system has been replaced with new hose, new line filter, tank taken off and cleaned, valve removed and cleaned along with screen on the valve assembly. As I said, he is three hours away from me and I haven't seen or heard how it runs. Could this possibly be a Magneto issue or something else electrical? It reminds me by what he said of a bad Condenser which I remember having issues with years ago on my 982 with the 19.9 Onan, but since there is no condenser on this engine, I am lost! Any info will be Greatly Appriciated! Bill |

Sounds like a fuel related issue to me. Maybe some trash got into the new carb.

Thanks! I will be talking to him this week end and will see if I can get any more in depth info. He never said whether he put on a new fuel pump, so maybe that could be an issue if it's the original pump. Thanks Again and will keep you updated on any progress! Bill.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
