D600 Operating Temperature
My 782d seems to be running hot to the touch. What temperature should the engine be running at? I run the engine about 30 minutes and the oil cap is so hot to touch. Is this normal? If not, what should I be looking at diagnosing?

Does the gauge still work? Is the insulation still on the top hose that goes to the radiator?
It is going to get pretty hot under the hood.

I am going to cut the grass with m 1572 this afternoon. I will take some pictures of the gauge after 30 minutes of run time. Good comparison test.

What is your gauge reading? I think anything over 140* will feel hot to the touch. Here's what the decal says under the hood. " Anything under 230* is normal". I don't think mine ever get above 170*.

After 30 minutes of working the mower pretty good. I stopped to see how hot the oil cap was and you could hold it 2-3 seconds. I let it run for a couple of minutes with no load and it cooled down fast. I mowed a little slower in the tall grass and it did not get as hot.

I do this to all my diesels and it helps. The crossover hose will pick up heat from the engine. Might be overkill but only takes a few minutes to do.

My 782D has a 180 degree thermostat. It has all new coolant and belts. It likes to run 190 degrees on hot days while mowing. The OE gauge has been replaced with a mechanical numerical gauge for better temperature accuracy.
