Default Hello, Tennessee 126

Hello from West Tennessee.

I just recently acquired an old (I think it's a 1969, by the numbers on the starter/generator) model 126. It was cheap, and just what I was looking for. We had had a '52 super Cub some years ago and wanted something versatile and rugged but not so big or tall as I'm getting older and don't climb around good any more.
It does start and run, I mowed some the afternoon I got it home. But it needs some work to be really useful as our workhorse. It seems to slowly die after running about 10 or 15 minutes. It'll restart but do the same thing a bit later. I got a tune-up kit, but am looking into a new carb. The one on it has the choke cable arm such that the cable has to be hooked up backwards, so I wonder if it's not the right one? Should I put the plug, points & condenser in then try adjusting the carb, or replacing the carb first?

Appreciate any comments or links.

Thanks, Kris.

Hello and welcome,
Start with the cheaper parts first. It wouldn't hurt to change those parts anyway. But it may be a fuel problem. Check your filter and your tank for any signs of debris that may be clogging that might be restricting fuel flow. Check your choke also. There'll be many folks here to help you get it running. Good luck!

I'll probably have to wait a few days since I have to work in the shed with the big blue roof and it's been raining all day and probably tomorrow, too.
Later, ~Kris

I had a 102 that would do what you are describing and it was the points gap setting. Set it tp .020 and it was good to go. What part of Tn are you in? I am close to Fayetteville.

Just saw you are from west Tennessee.

Hello and welcome.

The 126 is the second rarest cub. Made from 69-71. I love mine and would probably never part with it. The serial number to determine the year should be on the rear differential not on the SG.

Your issue to me seems to be fuel related. I would start by cleaning entire fuel system tank to carb. Check or replace rubber lines that may be corroded from inside. Also. You may want to check under the engine tins and clean them out. Mice love building houses in there. Dirty tins will overheat and destroy these engines.

By the way. LETS SEE SOME PICS!

Ok, I'm gonna try this again . . .
Made a post a couple of weeks ago, but I don't see it anywhere 🤔
The weather's been pretty bad lately, so I only got to use the 126 once for about 15 minutes.
Then I went out to move it so I could work on the engine, and lo and behold! The starter belt was off and kinda shredded. 😟 How'd that happen?
More huntin' on the www. Finally found the part number for that belt. The manuals I got don't either one have full parts breakdowns with part numbers. (If anyone knows where I can download a set of drawings like those on "partstree", I'd like to get it, since I don't have www here.)
So I'm waiting for the Belt so I can see if my new old gas cap will help the stalling problem.
Decided to get 2 belts so I have a spare. I want a spare of each of the mower belts, too. A little confused about the proper sizes. Anyone know the size and IH p/n for them?
It's a CC 126 w/48" wide mower deck.
Took some pictures, but it doesn't look like my upload worked. 😕
I'll try again when I get back to Town. 🤓

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
