Default Probably the roughest Cub Cadet I ever drug home!

Well the adventure started earlier this week!... A friend stopped by my shop a few days ago and told me that he had bought some property and the previous owners had left an old Cub Cadet behind... Of course I asked a few questions but he couldn't tell me much... Here is the info that he primed me with!... he thought it was probably early to mid 70's.. broken plastic grill... He thought it was a hydro and he knew it had a large single cylinder Kohler! Well I immediately thought "could it be a 169??!!"

The deal he made me... "If you come look... you have to take it with you!!" Also said bring your truck with the winch cause it's buried in the mud!

Went today.... bummer... 10hp with a geardrive.. it was a 108!! Oh well... I drug it home anyway... I agreed to take it no matter how bad it was.. 50 feet of winch cable and a few minutes had it unearthed!

I'd really like to know what happened to the gas tank... it took a hell of a lick... but no damage to the hood!! Who knows... if they could only talk!

Engine is free and appears to have compression... not sure what I will do with it but im pretty sure its a donor... everything else is rusted and frozen.

Guess my Cub addiction continues!

Well good for you Jay. I guess.
Got a 3pt with it, bonus! Yeah, I think that would make a better donor than anything. Congrats

Thanks guys!! He told me if I didn't take it the scrappers were gonna get it... I can't bear to see old American iron get ground up! Somebody in Louisville worked hard and fed their family building that tractor... Maybe I'm just too sentimental?!

IF the wiring is decent, I'd have to try to crank it--but I'm stubborn like that. On this one I'd say change the oil before you try to crank it as it has been sitting outdoors for a LONG time. Pull the head, if the valves move then grab some starting fluid and see what you got. I think you are gonna need earplugs after looking at the muffler though. Maybe a fire extinguisher should be kept near. Oh yeah, watch out for critter nest shrapnel flying everywhere. Ear plugs, safety glasses, fire extinguisher, couple of good friends so you can say "Hey y'all, watch this!". Might want to move it out of the shop also. I'm behind you all the way, well actually about a days drive north

Worth dragging it home just for the parts! Not to mention the mystery. Think maybe I ...or maybe not?

I agree with you John! My first thought was I bet it will run even though it looks like it has been to war! already pulled the plug and dumped a bit of oil in the cylinder... spun it a few times... put the plug back in.. spun it with a battery and the starter... believe it or not it has compression!! I'll clean the points in the next few days and see what happens!

I think we need a new section where we can post pics of the saddest looking Cub we ever drug home. I got a really "well done" 1810 I could submit pics of.

Not bad for the price! There's still some good left in her. I don't think there's any salvage to the gas tank though ! lol

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
