Default Thunder Taker

Been working on this tractor allot the past year for a customer. He built it a few years ago for the NQS open super stock class. It has a 130 HP 54 cid command twin with dual S&S super D carbs on alky by Midwest Super Cub. It's never had much success on the track though for what it is.
We've been making chassis change's to get it to balance better . I wanted to scrap it and build a low rider chassis or half pint chassis like mine to get the CG lower. I think We have it figured out now. I drove it at the Peoria Il NQS pull to a 1st and second. He drove it to a second and third in Princeton IN. and I drove it again over the weekend at the NQS pull in Liberty Ky and finished with a first and a second and We finished second overall in points on the season between Harrison Stahl in third and Julian Stahl Jr who finished first in points.
So needless to say the owner Bruce Austin of Iowa is very pleased with the results. after the event was over He says , " you're right, We have to get the center of gravity lower " plans are now in the making for a new chassis and probably new sheet metal.

Very cool looking puller. Congrats on the finishing order! You must have some serious drive train behind that much engine.

Thanks guys. it has all the good parts in it, 5 puck clutch, billet dart carrier, heavy ring and pinion, aftermarket 4 speed. its just a handful if you don't hit the balance perfect.

Being an ex racer I can imagine that that has to be interesting to run to say the least. My guess is that the setup has to be perfect or your screwed. Good luck with it.

Nice work Don! Glad you are getting it lined out! Why do you need the center of gravity lowered? Is it wanting to "rock" on a wheel-hop?

Congratulations to you both Don. Hope you can knock the Stahl's off their perch next season.

it has the habit of wheel hop, its also very sensitive to driver movement because you sit so high on it . If the rearend wouldn't have broke at the Sturgis Ky. pull it would have won the points title . We had to take last place points both days there. I wanted to replace the ring and pinion but Bruce wasn't up for it. We only finished 11 points behind first .

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
