2013 LTX1040 no brake and keeps moving forward
Hello!
I bought a new to me LTX1040 - Model 13WX90AS010 42" deck non-timed blades in April. So far I'm reserving my judgement until after the mowing season is done. This is my first Cub Cadet and it sounds like the older ones were solid; newer ones...? Changing belts has been a major pia. I changed out the drive belts last weekend. Now it will go forward (or reverse) with no foot on the pedal. And all of a sudden the brake doesn't work either which made for a startling AND comical discovery when I pulled into the garage after a test drive haha. I downloaded a shop service manual and will be going over it this weekend. I have a feeling that the new drive belt is either too tight (bought OEM belt), I installed it a bit different, or something disconnected, or should be connected, that I'm not aware of. I thought I would post this in case someone had a similar problem and can share their wisdom on this problem and any others I should be looking for or start preventative maintenance on. only suggestion is to do over and see if helps.

Sounds to me like you have a belt routing issue or the wrong size belt. Did you compare belt lengths? I think you will find all the info necessary for the installation of a new belt.

got the brakes working sort of
took it apart and put it back together. I still need to adjust them a bit better.
Mower still runs by itself. OEM belts must be a little too tight. I knew they were slightly smaller but I figured that was because the old ones had stretched. At this point, I'm still mowing, just really creative about it. Hopefully soon, the belts will work themselves out. Crazy... I'll keep you updated on this. |

Belts don't stretch, but they do wear so they appear to "stretch"
As they become narrower, the distance between pulleys need to be moved to keep the belt tight. |

Jon- he said that he bought an OEM belt and thinks it's to tight. He's agreeing with you.

Ah. I misread where he thought the belt was too tight. I (mis) read it that he wanted to.make it tighter. My bad.
