Cub cadet 682
Hey guys, I looked at a 682. The tractor itself was in Ok shape, with over 1000 hours. But, the motor was completely apart IN his yard. Ive been down that road before and I just don't wanna mess with it. I have a 18 magnum with no home so I figured why not? My question is this: do you guys think a 18 magnum would go into a 682 at all? If it was even close, how much mod. would be needed? Or, am I disrespecting to cub-lord for thinking about a swap?
I told the man that if I could make the swap I would buy it for $100. Does that sound good? Even with over 1000 hours? I got pics but lost the camera.

Cub Cadet put a M-18 (Spec No: 24506) into the 1806, 1810, 1811, & 1812 which is just a newer version of the 682/782 models.
There would be a slight modification to the wiring to accommodate the Magneto Ignition system, but other than that it would be a drop in fit.

Thanks for the reply Roland. I forgot to mention that the motor is not from a cub, its from a craftsman. would that make a difference? <a
What are your thought on the roller? Dont judge me on my photography shills. It was dark by the time we got there and this is the best I could do. The motor

mag 18
Hey Cubguy, I'm getting ready to attempt this in a 582 in about a week, waiting on a clutch hub. I think a hydro might be easier. The mag 18 i have is out of an Ayp (sears). The front pto is spaced out and the crankshaft is 3/4" longer than the briggs. Might work or not, might have to try and get the pto back 3/4"and use a spacer on the front. Might try and get the pto off the briggs to work as there both 1" shafts. I'm gonna need manifolds and a muffler. I've got a 16 single i could try but i like a smooth twin for a mower. i'll put a slow 2nd gear in the trans if i keep it for my mower, i like that speed.
Good luck Mike |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
