Kohler CH18 flywheel and coils
I've read somewhere, can't remember where. But I have a CV22S that had the famed smart spark. I also have a CH18S with badly pitted cylinder walls. I can only rotate the crank half a rotation either way. Question is , can I use the flywheel and coils from the CH18 on the CV22. Can't see spending $150.00 to convert the CV22 if everything from the CH18 will work.

Get the 2 manuals for the engines and compare the part numbers , if they are the same bingo , or as Jackie Gleason once said "away we go"

From the limited information given, and from what I could find, the answer is NO. Different parts.

There is a decent chance that this will work. The first thing to do is confirm that the CH18 coils and fly wheel will fit properly. Are the mounting points in the same place relative to each other? The electrical part should not be too difficult to sort out. You may lose a little performance without the smart spark.

I would just swap the coils. Keep in mind that you will need to use the CH18 kill wire setup.

That's what I'm going to do Sam. Can't for the life of me, remember where I heard to use the flywheel also. From what I understand, this will work on CH,V 22's up to the CV23 24's. I think the keyway on the Ch & CV18 is a little off from the Smart Spark flywheels. We'll find out, hopefully will have it running this afternoon.

got the coils mounted on the cv22, and got spark. Got to get a new battery finish cleaning the carb should be good to go.

I think you need to use the flywheel also.
They sell a kit to convert that comes with the flywheel,2 coils and wiring harness.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
