Default IH Cub Cadet 782 - Honda GX610 repower altenator question

Hi,

I came across a GX610 I would like to put into my 782. The GX610 has a 10amp altenator on it. I know I will need at least 15amps to run the electric clutch and charge the battery.
Can I just swap the 10 amp regulator out with a 15 or 20 amp regulator?
Will the stator have to be swapped as well?

Thanks in advance!

You do NOT need a 15 Amps to run the PTO clutch.

In order to get a higher Amperage output to a charging system, the Stator Coil will have to be larger. The V/R regulates the voltage, regardless of the amperage.

Not sure what the total amp draw is to run the lights, pto and charge, but that’s kinda worst case scenario. If you’ve got issues doing all those things, you can swap the lights out with LEDs and you should be fine. Maybe easier than finding a bigger stator. Those old school lights are a way bigger draw than the PTO.

As Roland said, the voltage regulator simply regulates the output voltage, but has nothing to do with the amount of current being provided or consumed.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
