No, The fluid is Hy-Tran from the sump on the hydro.
The level may be low.
Check for leaks.
Has the fluid and filter been changed recently?
Does the unit move backwards and forwards as it should?

Forward and reverse seemed ok and the lift was fine when I started and even when the lift stopped working forward and reverse worked alright

It might have sheared a roll pin on the rock shaft. Mine did that once and the blade would barely lift off of the ground.

129, hydraulic lift???? Does it have an after market unit on it. 129 is manual lift. Someone may have put a 149 hydro in it to get hydraulic lift.

All it would take is a ported pump and the rest of the kit from a 1450 or a 1650.
I assumed that is what has been done.

Hydraulic lift was an option for the 129, 109 back in the day.

109 and 129. No hydraulic lift were available from factory. Sold hundreds of them new at our old dealership. Also if you look at parts book for 109 and 129 there is no ported pump available like for a 149

Thats funny my parts book shows a electric lift and a hydraulic lift as an option. TC-157 dated 1976.
I also owned a 129 with one it an was original to the tractor.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
