New Cub Cadet LTX1050 Kohler
Bought my first Cub cadet this week....if you can call it that. Just a Home Depot special but nothing like the cubs of yesteryear. I grew up using John Deere garden tractors from a dealership. The first one lasted 20 years until it was destroyed in a barn fire. The second is on year 13. So I'm a bit skeptical of how well a box store lawn tractor is going to hold up. I've been mowing my grass with a 1953 Farmall Super A tractor with a woods belly mower the past 3 years. It is down for awhile to get new brakes and a flywheel so I needed something to mow with while it is down.
So anyway I went to Home Depot to find me a new mower and spent 2 hours trying to make my mind up between the John Deeres and Cubs. The JD was nothing like the tough as nails JD's my dad had owned. I finally came to the conclusion the cub cadet was built better and heavier. But comfort was the deal breaker. The cub was a lot more comfortable hands down. Plus I liked the 24hp Kohler over the Briggs. So I took it home and have had a great time with it. It's a fearless mower and has cut anything I can throw at it. Drives like a sports car. It does seem to get poor traction at times on my rugged terrain. The back tires seem undersized for the size of the tractor. Some ag tires may be in my future to help out on that. The deck is quiet and cuts nicely. The Kohler twin 24hp engine is a monster. I easily mowed knee high grass and it didn't even know it was there. So far im really pleased with it. I wish it was a 3000 series or so but money just doesn't permit right now. Will it last 20 years?? I have no idea but time will tell. Garage kept and routine maintanence I don't see why it wouldn't last a long time. Here it is with my 3 year old daughter. She is crazy about it

i bought one of those brand new in 2004. had it five years. mowed nice but belt drive hydro was pretty weak and i put two pto clutches in it. after four years mowing 1/2 acre and one year mowing 1 1/2 acre the whole steering system was about junk and the belt that runs the hydro that you cant get two was junk too. i did pull a brinly cultivator with it a few times but otherwise it had a cushy life and i was upset on how fast it was wearing out. i had 210 hours on it when i sold it and bought a 1650.
it wasn't a bad machine just giving you my experience with it. they don't make them to last any more.

Welcome to Only Cub Cadets. It will not last 20 years, but you can get a older one that will as soon as the Cub bug bites you.

Glad to have you aboard. Congrats on the LT tractor. Used for what it was intended to do, cut grass it will do you fine. I wouldn't put AG tires on it though, that I would think would be alot of stress on the hydro unit. Nice looking A

I have one of these with about 250 hours on it. The only real gripe I have with it is I wished they could have spent about $20 a unit more and put wheel bearings in them instead of the junk plastic bushings. Also take your back wheels off once a year and put a little grease on the axle. The back wheels like to seize on the axle. These are pretty good for cutting the grass but I sure wouldn't put any load on the hydro pulling something. I really like the foot operated hydro. I'm putting something similar on a 782 that I'm rebuilding now. Good luck with the 1050!
