Kohler 18 Hp
I have a Cub Cadet 1862 and when it runs and cuts it works great. What I am having a problem with is at times it appears to be out of fuel and just cuts off. It will not restart but I can let it set over night and usually it will start right up. Is it the fuel pump that is causing the problem? I took the fuel pump off and cleaned it and it ran great for about a week with no problems. It just started messing up again yesterday. Also can you replace the mechanical fuel pump with a low pressure electrical fuel pump?

If You haven't, clean the screen in the fuel tank (if it has one) as well as the tank as they tend to collect debris, and as far as an electric pump or such, no sense reinventing the wheel, as the factory pump is not problematic.
Either they are worn out after many years, or a cheap import substitute. Also, sometimes the elbow right at the carb where the fuel hose attaches collects debris. Have you checked to see if you have spark when it quits operating?? Sometimes an old coil will fail when hot after many years of use but start up when cool. |

Thanks for the information and I will check for the screen in the fuel tank and check to see if the coil is bad . I don't think the coil is going to be bad because it will try to start when chocking it but just acts like it is not getting fuel. At least I have a few things to check out. Thanks again for the info.

My guess is heat related magneto failure.

For what its worth. Anytime something is not getting fuel I start at the gas tank and work my way forward. There are quite a few bolts and such but I would pull the tank. Do a major clean, replace fuel lines and even put a new full pump on. It will be one of the least inexpensive fixes you will ever do. You can pull the carb side line on the fuel pump and turn the key. If fuel comes out you know the pump is good.
You will learn a bunch about your 1862. If after that you are still having trouble you will know the fuel system up to the carb is not the issue. Always great to eliminate a variable. Especially when you can do it with very little money. Always a good time learning new stuff. Ken |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
