Cub Cadet 127
Now that I have a running 127, I see why everyone loves the IH cub cadets. My only problem is the mower belt keeps coming off. I have messed with the adjustment bolts, but still comes off. Any help would be appreciated. I am buying a new belt as this one is pretty worn.
I do have to say jmech is right about a beginner getting a what is now a parts machine. It is easy to get overwhelmed and give up, but I do have spare parts. Lesson learned.

I am not really what you mean by the mower belt. The mower belt is on the deck and the mule drive belt is from the engine to the main pulley. It sounds like you are referring to the mule drive belt. Check your alignment to the pulleys as you roll the belt around, engine off, of course. If you are talking about the deck, then much the same, especially concerning the tension pulley. I had the same problem with my deck and the tension pulley was the culprit on the deck of my 73.

I was a beginner once. But I never felt like giving up on a repair project..... especially a lawn tractor. They are pretty easy machines. I like new parts. |

When the pto/mule drive belt is off, check the mule drive pulleys for wobble.
And also the brackets they are mounted on as the holes in the brackets can get wallowed out also. Along with the rod they are pivoting on. |

The normal PTO is an "ag" type of belt with cords inside. I have had two belts (over the years) where the cords were broken, and the belt would keep jumping the pulleys. This "may" be the issue.

Just had the same issue with one of my 1450s. New belt solved the problem.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. It is the mule drive belt. I will check the mule drive pulleys for wobble. The belt is worn like mentioned. As far as the other 127, it had been setting in the weather for the better part of 15-20 years. Everything was rusted solid so I saved everything I could (it was free). Imo it would have cost more to replace parts than buy a running tractor. Thank you for your help.

I forgot to mention, my new tractor came with the rear pto (belt driven) and electric lift. Is the only thing the rear pto for is the tiller, or are there other attachments?
Thanks again, Tom

What you are referring to is in fact a tiller gearbox. It's not a rear PTO. So yes, the only thing it's good for is a tiller.

If you could hook up a Simplicity or Allis Chalmers snow thrower using that gearbox it would be cooool.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
