just got my first cub
thought id introduce myself. my name is martin and ive been a member here for over 2 years. was interested in your forum back in march 2011, looking at buying a cub back then but never happened. i am big into the wheel horses and am a regular over on red square. just recently came across a 682 and became an owner through a labor deal on getting a k241 on a lincoln welder running. the 82 series have always caught my eye, but i guess being an owner just never happened until now. this tractor has set for years in a field and was a gamble whether it would even run. most of the gt's and stationary or pulled engines that were in the same place were not running, pulled from a scrap yard, etc. so something most probably had to be wrong with it, just was hoping nothing major. anyway will start a thread on the tractor and my effort to get it running (runs and drives awesome, by the way) and for not much cash outlay, but a whole week and a half of nights after work and a full weekend....
i have a few questions on the tractor but just wanted to get a quick intro out the way first!! |

just wondering where i should concentrate my posting on the forum? should i post in the ih built cub cadet or ccc/mtd cub cadet section? from what ive read this is not an ih built 682 but a ccc built one. it has the cast iron rear though. from the serial it a very early one after they took over.... |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
