Default New to Me Gt1554

Picked this up Saturday from my brother in law. It was my Dad's. He gave me his 1863 and my brother in law the GT1554, before he passed. Brother in law got tired of cutting his grass and asked me if I wanted it and I said, absolutely. It is not too bad for a newer model. It does have the 27HP command and not the courage. 185 hours on a working meter. Pretty cool that it has a oil cooler. The only thing that does not work is the cruise control. It does surge little when it not under a load. Maybe a carb cleaning or rebuilding needed. It has sat for 2-3 years. I been researching the rear and it is not serviceable.

Has anyone ever changed the fluid in the rear of one of these? If you have one or one similar, how many hours before the tranny dies?

Nothing wrong with that + it was dad's. Every time I climb on my dad's 982 the seat still feels warm from when he sat on it 13+ years ago.

Thanks for the info. Mine is an early one so it may not have the drain plug. I will check later. Thanks again, Ironman.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
