2072 front clutch pulley
Don't know if this is the right place to ask a question about a Super Cub Cadet 2072. Please correct me if I need to be corrected. The bearing in the pulley on the front clutch of my 2072 has bit the dust. I'm getting mixed messages about how to correct the problem. So say to replace the complete clutch assembly and they are talking way more than I want to spend at this point. Several sites show a clutch/pulley assembly and say it's the same for various Cub Cadets including the 1872 and the 2072. I "borrowed" the assembly from one of my other tractors which has the Magnum 18 an (1872). This inner bearing race will not fit the crank on my 2072. Is it different? My son has been doing the work since I'm recovering from an injury. He says the shaft on the 2072 is smaller diameter than the inner bearing race on the 1872 part. Is there a sleeve or something that needs to be installed? Or is the 1872 part just not usable on the 2072? Also, since the clutch still works, would a bearing shop be able to replace the bearing in my bad part? Thanks for any help.

Fix the old one.
https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ad.php?t=43397 As a note, even though the 2072 used the larger engine, it used the same size crank nose. Maybe your engine has been changed. Or perhaps the bearing spun on the crank and wore it out??? |

I am “cautiously” posting this.....but I am pretty sure that the M20 motor in the 2072 has a 1 1/4” crank that is different than the M18’s which are 1 1/8”.

You are correct, as long as both are stock.

Agreed, PTO journal on the M20 is larger. OP states his son is saying the M18 is larger is his case. Perhaps he is confused with the information given to him, or his tractors engines are no longer stock. The M18 should be 1/8" smaller than the M20.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
