1864
A coworker of mine has a 1864 hes considering selling and told me to make him an offer. I've only seen one pic so far, but its got a 46" deck with a rear mounted vacuum (the one that looks like a trashcan), IH hubcaps on the rear, and the optional front bumper. He inherited it from his dad and doesnt know too much about it, however the little info hes given indicates it runs good, it has over 1000 hours, some broken plastic, and the front wheels might need bearings or tie rods. What would you offer?

Nice tractor. Check for leaks, loose or missing rear end to frame bolts. Wiring and safety switches can be problematic, but repaired. Easy $500 if it moves and cuts. Used plastic available with price variable on condition.

I currently have a 1641 and parted out another, I have spare plastics and all the switches. I offered 600 in hopes that somebody will buy the vacuum. Hope I can get to see it in person soon.

That is a fair price for the 1864, I would start at 500. The vacuum, in my area, is not worth much. I just threw one away and I tried to give it away for a year.

I must have gotten screwed, if 500$ is a fair price. I paid 800$ for mine, with the seller throwing in all the bearing and seals to rebuild the spindles on a 54'' deck. This is the 1st CCC Cub that I have owned. All the rest were IHC's Cubs.

It is all about condition. I just looked at one for 1000.00 and it looked like it was worth that. You may have done ok, hard to say without pictures. 1864's are nice machines and deserve a premium, that is my opinion, some may disagree,

Not yet. He agreed to let me look at it before further negotiations. But we work opposite shifts so its tough to get together.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
