1211 and super progress
Well Mountain Heritage ,Has asked for some progress pictures so here are a couple. I put the bolens wheel weights on. I found a bagger mount plate for a cyclopes, so I used that to properly mount my weight box. I have finished the super steer axle swap. I still need to do the steering box. Another member has put thrust bearings on the spindle (bottom of the axle side) ,and says it helped so I might try that also.
The plow mount started as one from AARON at EXTREME, I knew I would have to modify it to make up for the high center axle. I welded a piece of 3x3 heavy on the bottom and then welded the hinge under that. I put some gussets on it also. I don't think I will break or bend this one. I still have not decided if I will run some rear braces back to the floor board mounts or not. I just am not sure if it needs them or not. (((( any opinions are welcome )))) I will probably put them on though ,as I have a tendency to push things I shouldn't with it, ( rocks,stumps, trees ext). I changed the Frankenstein bolts out for some gr8 bolts and it is also bolted on through the 3/4 holes on front side frame. I had to cut some off the front of the engine cradle to make room for the nuts. So it is bolted on tight, no slopping around. I tried to get a couple pictures of how sharp the super steer axle turns, just so anyone thinking about it could see. I am going to have to find another one for the 1806. I have another fender pan for it also. I am just trying to get it fully functional and tough as I can rite now. If everything goes well this winter with it ,then next sumer I will tear it down and pretty it up.

Looking good! You really should have something that attaches back further on the frame. Just having it connect to the front of the frame puts a LOT of stress on it.
I read once about some people that were putting those thrust bearings between the axle and spindles and they apparently didn't last very long. Putting a bearing in there will reduce friction and make it steer easier, but it also greatly reduces the surface area of the interface between the axle and spindle, which isn't good. |

NICE! Can't wait to see more updates and pictures. Those front tires must really bit when you get on something other than pavement, you not tear up your lawn with them? Must be able to turn on a dime with that steering!

Yea, it turns pretty tight now. The tires aren't bad on the yard for the work this tractor does. I would not want them on my mowing tractor though. But they are awesome in the snow when plowing. I am still waiting to hear how the v-61's do in the snow. But for now I would say the x-tracs are the best in the snow.

Any idea how much your 'bolens wheel weights' weigh?? I think I know where I can lay hands on a set and was just wondering.

I would have to say they are around 60-65 lbs. They are heavy. I had a set of the large ( stuck out of the wheel 3-4 inches ) cement filled plastic ones on before. The bolens are heavier.

I went rooting through some bins in the back of a dealership the other day looking for weights. Found about 30 or so! ALL of them were too big! That wasn't counting the suitcase weights they had either. Smallest ones I could find were 15" O.D. So I'd have to make up a plate to mount them to and then bolt the plate through to the rim center. That would just look bad and collect mud and crap along side the tires and the weight. Heck, my luck I would ruin the sidewall of the tire having it mounted outside the rim along side the tire sidewall. NOT the way it should be done!!
