Default Any suggestions,....?

My model 72 is coming to my new home, where my wife and I reside. The garden tractor engine, drive train, steering, and carb have been all rebuilt my Dale. Can't say I have more than 20 honest hours on this tractor since rebuild.

I had left the 72 at mom's house set up with IH 42" blade, so that she, or any family member could come over and use it during the winter to clear the drive. Mom is selling out her house and property, so I just got conformation this morning, that I can come get my beloved 72 after my wedding!!!!

So, I was thinking. I have two 42" blades. I'd like to make a 54" out of the two.
Are there any concerns, or thoughts and suggestions before I cut down a push blade and weld those lengths up to my good blade?

I know, the project is straight forward, have to ask any how

I know it may not be what some of you want to be made aware of, but not throwing down on a nice, original 54" IH blade. At least I'll have parts left over from my old blade, maybe bake a back blade some time out of it, lol!

Anyhow, this is the plan. Gonna get started on it soon!

I say go for it, I've thought about doing it myself because the bigger blades are almost impossible to find but the 42" blades are around by the hundreds.

I'd go to the local welding shop and have a couple 6" pieces bent for the ends and weld them on. Why waste a good blade for the extra width.

Likewise, but I would have them fab up a V-blade for the front. I have always thought they were neat and it will save your original blade. Others have made them and shown pictures on this site before. Well, maybe food for thought.

Im gunna 3rd or 4th that motion. But im a sticker for being able to take something back to original condition for restoration purposes.

Would cost very little to have extensions rolled.

That said, good luck with your project. Hope you put up some pix!

Sam Mac, thanks for the suggestion! After all, we're only asking 6" from each side of the blade. Last I recall, this blade was in tough condition, but still worked fine. If anything, the old blade would be a great dedicated dirt blade.

Seen some nice blade extensions added, around the 'net! Think I'm going to make a 56" IH snow blade for my 72! Going to cover up the 1450 with 38" deck in the garage, and start this project as I tinker and do things to the 125.
