Blowers - 451 vs. 551
Could someone tell me the difference between a 451 and 551 blower? They both appear to be 45" 2-stage blowers.
I'm hoping the same model would fit both my 1864 and 2084, curious if both of these will.

I have a 451 on my 2084 and EricR has a 551 on his 2086. As far as the hookup to the tractor I can not think of any difference. One difference I recall is the 551 has a lever to change the chute pitch angle, i.e. the movable part at the top of the chute the 451 does not. The biggest difference is the overall size of the auger shroud. The 551 stands taller by maybe 2 inches than the 451. I will say that the skid shoes on my 451 are much wider than the ones on the 551 and as heavy as these blowers are and the fact we blow out gravel drives those wider shoes help keep the blower up off the gravel. As I said I do not recall any difference in hookup to the tractor. With the proper pulleys these blowers will blow snow about 30 feet easily. Also take into account these blowers are extremely heavy and all that weight hangs out in front of the tractor so chains or ag tires and weights are definately needed.

Thanks Paul, great info. There must be some reason they built the 2 different models, I wonder if the 551 has a bigger auger and requires more HP. As I keep up my search I want to make sure I get the right model for the 2 tractors.

Dave I use the 451 on my 20hp Kohler in my 2084 and have no problems with power at all and can throw snow about 30 ft. EricR has the 551 mounted on his 20 hp Kawasaki 2086 and it just plays with it. He can throw snow well over 30 ft. More like 35 ft. I have my 451 all tore down for some maint and repaint.

So it sounds like whichever one I find first will work. I've been looking for some time but figure one might pop up somewhat local (100 mile radius?) now that we've got 80 degree weather in March!
What I want is to have one tractor with the blade, one with the blower. I really enjoy plowing snow and would likely do that most of the time, but in bigger storms have the blower ready to send it airborne.

 They will interchange, the 551 is just the newer version. Hope this answers your question.

That's a great picture Eric! The difference in the blower dimensions, and the tilting discharge, are easy to see.
I'll keep my eyes open, would really like to find one. I notice the IH emblem on the 2086 grill, interesting addition.

Thanks guys, yeah I do love the old ones BUT till ya give a super a try you just don't know the feeling.
And Dave we bought the 2086 with the IH sticker already on the tractor and I just can't find the heart to remove it.
