Default Another CH22 Problem

I am going to buy a Cub Cadet 3225. I believe the engine is a CH22. He said one of the cylinders is not working

I believe it could possibly be a broken rod OR could be a bad coil.

I was wondering if these engines were known for such failures? Is there anything I should look for?

I plan on taking the spark plug out and look inside the hole to see if the piston is moving. If not I was just going to consider buying another engine... and yes.. I am willing to buy a new/used engine.

If the piston is moving I will consider that a swith/relay is bad, coil, or ground is off.

What else should I look for this model??

THose are nice mowers. I know some of them, maybe alll you can hook up atachments. Some of the 3k series I work on have gear boxs to run the decks. If so see if its loose or noisy. The drive shaft souldnt gicve problems if its been greased, it has cv joints.

As far as the eng, you can see if it has comp and if not most times if a rod is broken then it will wipe out the cam too. iN THat case its more than likly shot. not worth rebuilding there will be metal in the jurnals you may want to pull the valve cover too and look to see if the rockers are off seen that a few times. Those coils will go bad, but not to often.

Some times the air vacume gives trouble for the pto but that is due to abuse something hitting them.

I like working on them. Most time they are just here for service nuttin else too much. Kinda like a QL or 2000 series, be sure the heat shields are there with the unit.

Thanks a lot. That's exactly what I was looking for when I posted this.

One of the best machines I ever had was 2135 but the right man came by with the right amount of money and bought her. That's why I am happy that someone is wanting to sell me another. Plus I am in the market for a larger lawn tractor due to buying a house with acreage.

When I got mine it was running on one cylinder so I got a good deal. Easy to check pull the plug and do like you said and see if the pistons moving and see if you got spark at the plug. The coils are a pain in the rear to change. My carb has been my biggest problem
