Hello Cbrown,
Did you check the spark plug?
Try a new one to rule that out.
Also I tried to start my 70 today and had to play with throttle position and choke position quite a bit to get it running.
It did eventually start but did not like it.
How old is your fuel?
keep us posted.....

Default Welcome to Only Cub Cadets.net!

Glad to have you here as a member! Someone will come along who knows way more about your problem than I do, and perhaps they can help. So to start with, a little more information about the problem is needed. We love pictures, so if you have'em, lets see! I have a 71, 72, and a 123.

Chad,
Did you try shooting some starting fluid in the carb to see if it would start? Most of the time I find is that these old tractors have dirty carbs that won't let it run. If it starts on starting fluid, then the carb needs a good cleaning.

Also, as Roland suggests, check the timing. Make sure the valves aren't sticking, adjusted properly. Also what does the spark look like?

Done a full tune up and spark seems to be fine and took the carb off and sprayed eveything with carb cleaner. (Maybe not a good enough cleaning) tried shooting gas in the carb and nothing. I will try and mess with it some more this week and try starting fluid and check the timing. Will keep you all posted.

Default cub 72

I am unable to find a sight hole on the shroud in order to check the timing.

It's there somewhere, possibly blocked by the S/G or covered by one of those little sheetmetal plugs.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
