Picture of the Week: August 7, 2015
This weeks submission is sent to us by local member WCompton aka Wyatt Compton. Wyatt comments "Here’s the 2072 I refurbished. It was previously owned by the Rudd Rockford Marble Rock school in Rockford, IA for its whole life, used to blow snow from the sidewalks and maintain the ball diamonds. I took the liberty of restyling it to look like what IH may have produced should the line not have been sold off to Modern Tool & Die. The graphics are closer to the Super 70 2+2’s graphics than what the TRX concept tractors had. This was done just by using stripes from a 128/129 decal kit, and having the numbers I designed made from duplicate material. The grill was custom built from material that matches material IH used on other grille screens, and the lights are glass housings from a DF1073KB driving light kit, with LED lights (though I’ll be going back to Halogen 35w H3’s soon, as the performance of the H3 LED units is poor). The grille is still retained with the stock springs for easy access to the PTO. The machine still retains its Magnum 20, upgraded with a #30 carb, a tremendous improvement over the Walbro. The original aluminum rear end has been upgraded with a cast iron housing, but retains the stock fine spline axles, carrier, etc. A Ruegg 3-point kit that replicates the original with PTO provision has been added. The OEM 8.5” wide rear rims were replaced by 10.5” rims with parts from Miller tire, and have Titan Tru-Power II rubber. The rear “cast centers” are just starter weights for a Deere 400 with an extra set of holes to place 6 bolts evenly spaced (painted IH non-glare black, of course). Rear tail lamps; since they're the same part as the rear markers for the Vega/Chevette/Astre, I just simply used the amber front marker light housings, with LED lights and an EP27 flasher to mimic the hazard lights that the full-size tractors have." Awesome! That's exactly how I am going to paint my 1211 and turn it into a 1282. May make it a 1288 now! Very nice work on the grill! Looks like factory OEM! Congratulations on potw! Very cool super! Where did you get the material for the grill?

With regards to the grille: As far as the grille material, if you check out McMaster # 9255T62, you'll find a perforated material that matches the OEM screen of the upper headlight panel (as well as 5488 grilles). I'm lucky enough to work next door to a hot rod shop where I took the screen over and had three ribs rolled in the screen. It was then bent down the center and affixed to a formed 1x1 steel frame. It attaches just light the original for easy access to the PTO. The headlight panel is just 16ga with formed buckets for some 3 x 5 Blazer (brand) driving lights. It attaches with the three holes cast into the grille (tapped 5/16" coarse thread), the top fastener is a stud with a spring so that the headlights can be aimed up or down.
