My 2084 "Super Garden Tractor" Head Gasket question.
Greetings, fellow addicts. I guess this is my first post so here it goes. The 2084 has the infamous kohler CH20 with leaky head gaskets. Bought a Head Gasket Kit from, Repair Clinic Dot Com. turns out my engine has HEAD BOLTS, the KIT is for the one with NUTS. Has anyone got experience with adding STUDS on the BOLTS type of engine? It had occurred to me that if is doable/possible, I would believe that this would be an improvement. Any thoughts/experience on this would be much appreciated. Thank you! Hope I'm not,

The tag on my engine with model # Spec # etc. is not readable. However I did know that it was a CH20. When I ordered the parts they looked to be right. When I got the parts and did the tear down on the engine I realized that it had head bolts. The kit has replacement nuts with it So, I got on line and found that some have bolts and some have nuts. So my question is can studs be used on this engine, making it work with the gasket kit with nuts. Like adding ARP studs on a diesel engine to replace the head bolts. Has anyone heard of doing this or have experience with doing this?

I just re-used the old bolts on my ch22. The manual says get NEW bolts, they looked fine to me but it's up to you. I just threw the nuts in the toolbox.

The 2284 rolled out of the factory with this engine:
M/N: CH22 Spec: 66510 Those gaskets you got are correct. I looked this up on both the Cub Cadet and Kohler sites.

I'd think it would be safer to get the right gasket to fit the engine than to modify the engine to fit the gasket.

Great, I am glad to know that I do not have to return the gasket set. Replacement of the bolts was a solution at one time to head gasket issues I believe. Any information on adding STUDS in place of the BOLTS and using the nuts that came with the gasket set possibly, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for your help.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
