Default 1860 bypass valve?

Hello,
I'm new to Cub Cadets. I just bought a 1641 with a mower deck, then saw an 1860 with a snowblower that I had to have. The 1860 is rough, but, for $150 I thought it would be a great project for my nephew.
I'm going to pick up the 1860 this weekend and I'm wondering if it has a transmission bypass valve/lever. I looked at the owners manual and didn't see it mentioned.
Does it have one, and where might it be found?
Thanks for any help.

Welcome to OCC. Your 1641 has a different transmission made by Hydro-Gear and it will have a release lever but the 1860 should have the Sundstrand pump that has the auto release valves. Lets see some pics of your machines.

The 1641 and 1860 both have the Hydro-Gear transmission. A rod you pull up and latch in the left rear corner of the transmission cover.

I've read on this forum that some[B] 1860/61 have Sunstrands. Never seen one though.

Cub parts site shows 2 pumps for the 1860 and both are Sundstrand. Odd.

I'll have to retract what I said about the 1860 having a Hydro Gear.

I have a very early one and it has the Sunstrand. 1860's do not have PS or hydraulic lift.

1861 and 1863 use the Hydro Gear. 1862/1864 use the Sunstrand.

My apologies.

Thanks for the replies guys.
There isn't a release lever on top of the transmission cover like on the 1641. Must be a Sunstrand. I was worried about pulling it down a long driveway in order to load it.
I brought it home yesterday and couldn't be happier. I got it for $150 with snowblower attached. The owner said it had a blown head gasket, and it looked rough. When looking at it, I noticed it had oil halfway up the dipstick - about 3x what was needed - and the air cleaner housing was missing, just the paper filter sitting on top of the carb. Just generally poorly maintained.
It literally took two men and a boy to detach the blower and load it on the truck, then winch the tractor on with a come-along. (No battery and flat front tires.
Once I got it home, I put a battery in, drained and refilled the oil with a new filter, drained the gas tank and refilled it, removed the carb and cleaned the bowl, and generally looked for any other sources of trouble. It started right up, and after a minute of running on half choke, smoothed out and runs like a top!

You sure it was all oil? It could be gas leaking through the carb and into the intake down into the oil or a bad fuel pump too... Or just a bad PO who thought more oil is better. Keep an eye on it, if your oil keeps going up the stick and you aren't adding any, it's gas mixing in from somewhere. Other than that, sounds like you did OK.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
