Default Engines trouble

Does anyone know what would cause an open rpm engine to cut out just before it reaches top rpm. It's not running out of gas, the jets have been drilled oversized also. Was wondering if maybe the valves are floating. It acts just like you would of let of the gas.

Well, you say open RPM, then you say top RPM......

What is the top RPM? Yes, if high enough you could be floating the valves.... Or, you could be running out of fuel..... Need more info.

I'm almost willing to bet your draining your fuel bowl of fuel. Check to make sure the float isn't set to low. And slightly larger line could help. The carbs wernt ment to provide asnmuch fuel as a non governed engine needs

is the carb modified for an ungoverned engine? do you have good valve springs in it?

Carb has been bored. Running electric fuel pump. Bowl is set so it allows more fuel than normal. Jets have been enlarged. Running heavier than stock valve springs but not too heavy because running a cast cam.

What I mean by top rpm is where the engine sounds like it is reaching the point where it can't spin any faster. It does this at about 6500- 7000 Rpms.

Is it possible it could be getting too much fuel? Yet the plug shows its running a little lean.

It drops a ways not all the way to idle though. But it will pick back up and almost drop immediately again.

is this a new engine or has it been run with no problems in the past?
whenever I have issues with a motor I start with the basics. check your timing, make sure spark is good, check your valve lash. I would change the float level back to level with the carb tipped upside down unless you run a return line back to the tank. how much fuel PSI are you running? gas? alky? is this a SA cam? .330 lift. is it a flat top design or a typical profile? is this a 16?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
