Default k341 build

I am doing my first build on a k341. Everything was going well until I put the piston in. The rod is hitting the cam. What am I doing wrong? Notch in piston is to flywheel match marks on rod and rod cap are aligned, and the oil hole in the rod cap is towards the cam. As per repair manual . Thought the cam and crank might be 180 off so I took it back apart and rotated the cam 180. Same result, rod hits the cam. I'm sure I did something stupid but I don't know what it is. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

New cam?

Did this engine have balance gears in it at one time?
Are you using the correct timing marks when you assemble the engine?

Original cam, had ballance gears removed previously. Using the dot on the cam and the long mark on the crank.

you have to have it out of time. there's nothing that can change or assembled wrong that it will do that except for timing.
TIP: don't use so much assembly lube. these are splash lubed engines not pressure fed, I find it best to just use motor oil when putting them together.
